PANAMA CITY — The love of a longtime Southern staple fueled the arrival of Smoky Barrel BBQ on Nov. 1 in historic downtown Panama City.

“Downtown never had a barbecue restaurant. Our food comes out really fast and everything is from scratch,” said chef Keith Lewis, who co-owns the restaurant with Aaron Outlaw. “It’s laid back, easy going; people love barbecue.”

Smoky Barrel BBQ is now home to “Big Willie,” a rustic welded iron pig who hangs out on the front porch at 422 Magnolia Ave. — or migrates to the courtyard.
